Four arrested after shop robberies

Robbers struck at shops in Maghull and Rainhill

Four men remained in custody this morning after they were arrested in connection with two robberies at Merseyside shops.

At 7.05pm yesterday officers received a report of a robbery at the Co-op on Warrington Road, Rainhill. A short time later at 7.30pm police received another report of a robbery at Bargain Booze, on Liverpool Road, Maghull.

In both incidents, a group of men, with their faces covered, entered the shop, threatened staff and made off with a quantity of cigarettes. No one was reported injured.

Following a search, four men – aged 25, 26, 26 and 41 – were arrested on suspicion of robbery. They were held in custody last night for questioning.

Police confirmed all four men remained in custody today.
