Skelmersdale's bravest three-year-old passed away yesterday evening surrounded by her family just days after celebrating her birthday.

Millie Rose Heaton united a town and inspired people from all over the country as she battled against stage four neuroblastoma.

Yesterday, July 2, Millie's mum, Lyndsay, posted a heartbreaking post on her Facebook page.

She said: "Millie-Rose gained her angel wings at 7.15pm today surrounded by the people that loved her most.

"She was peaceful and the only thing giving me comfort right now is knowing she doesn't have to fight anymore; she fought so hard.

"Heartbroken."

This morning Lyndsay posted: "Looking round my living room a house full of unopened toys, a table full full of three-year-old cards.

"Oh god, how is this real?"

Hundreds of tributes have since flooded into Lyndsay's and Millie's Facebook fundraising page The Millie Rose Appeal .

Millie was diagnosed with childhood cancer early in 2013, aged one, after a suspected ear infection.

Since then she endure intensive chemotherapy, operations and dozens of tests.

Lyndsay kept a blog of Millie's progress everyday on Facebook where thousands followed her journey, both the ups and the downs.

She would often share photos of Millie smiling despite all the medical procedures and pain she was forced to endure.

Family, friends and people who had never met the courageous little girl came together to raise funds for immunotherapy treatment to increase her chances of surviving.

Millie's aunty, Diane Clark told of how difficult it was to break the devastating news to Millie's older brother and sister: "There isn't much I can say at the moment. Millie is safe now.

"Was the hardest thing we have ever had to do breaking the news to Michael and Lexie .

"I don't know how we are going to get through this most difficult part, but we will for their sake .

"Love all my family the world and my special thoughts tonight are for Lynsday, Micheal, Mikey and Lexie.

" Goodnight and sweet dreams to our precious little Millie Moo."
