A new mum has launched an exercise class for other post-natal women to help them get back into shape.

Alex Blundell, 32, decided to set up buggy bootcamp after struggling to find childcare to attend exercise classes.

Based in Burscough, Alex has found a personal trainer to help her run the sessions specially for new mums.

Alex said: “After having Dixie five months ago I recently decided to get back into shape.

“I really struggled to find a class which suited the times I could get childcare, but I really wanted to start exercising again so decided to set up my own.

“I’ve lived in Sydney and London previously and have seen similar things to buggy bootcamp there, with mums working out together in the park or on the beach, and I thought we could recreate that in Burscough.

“We’ve had one session so far and it’s proved very popular; we can cater for around ten women and we had six this week from as far away as Kirkby and Rainford.”

The sessions take place twice a week in Richmond Park, off Junction Lane, starting at 10am on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The sessions accommodate babies, and buggies are actually incorporated into the workout.

The 45-minute intensive classes are designed to gradually build up your core strength, muscular endurance and cardiovascular system.

Alex said: “As well as a safe and effective post- natal workout, the group is a great way to meet other mums in the local community.

Best of all, it provides a unique way for you to bond with your baby, keeping them entertained and getting plenty of fresh air.

“I’m keen to stress that the class is for all fitness levels and that it’s a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

“I’ve already had pregnant women contact me on Facebook to see if the class will be continuing in the winter and we’ve looked into it and decided that it’s something we’d definitely be able to offer.

“We’re currently planning to host the sessions in Burscough Sports Centre when the weather gets colder.

“I just hope people enjoy the classes now.”
