Call for an Older People’s Minister

Cllr May Blake looking for resident to get involved and sign the petition

Councillor May Blake from West Lancashire Borough Council

West Lancashire Borough Council Older People’s Champion Councillor May Blake is calling on residents to sign a North West Elected Champions Network petition asking the government to create a post of Minister for Older People.

Councillor Blake believes that having such a position will ensure that all parts of the government will hear the voices of older people.

She is working with her colleagues at the Local Authority Older People’s Champion’s Network on promoting the petition.

Councillor Blake said: “There are ministerial posts for women and disabled people. Having a Minister for Older People will ensure that the needs of our ageing population are heard right across Whitehall.

“This will put the Government in a better position to meet the needs of older people and ensure they are seen as active members of the community and have much to offer. So please sign the petition, and remember that you don’t have to be old to support it.”

To download a petition form please visit www.westlancs.gov.uk/minister.

You have until National Older People’s Day on October 1 to sign the petition which will be presented to the Prime Minister David Cameron shortly after that date. Please send completed petition forms to Councillor May Blake, West Lancashire Borough Council, 52 Derby Street, Ormskirk, L39 2DF.
