Leon-Paul Salamanca Walsh prepares to celebrate his fifth birthday

Fundraisers have been completing events to raise cash for a birthday trip to Euro Disney

Leon-Paul Salamanca Walsh is set to celebrate his fifth birthday this weekend, surrounded by close friends and family.

This year has been a roller coaster for the Ormskirk youngster, who has an undiagnosed regressive genetic condition.

Leon cannot walk or talk but still manages to bring joy to those around him.

Mum Toni-Marie spoke to the Advertiser earlier this year and, since then, the Love for Leon appeal has grown and grown, with his Facebook page reaching almost 700 likes.

This week Retreat Beauty in Ormskirk hosted a charity day, with all the proceeds made going towards a holiday to Disneyland Paris for Leon at Christmas.

Toni-Marie’s friend Emma Constantine is also planning to do a sky dive on Saturday to raise cash for the dream trip.

Toni-Marie said: “We’re looking forward to celebrating Leon’s special day over the weekend, with our family.

“We’re just overwhelmed with how Leon’s journey has progressed this year.

“It’s absolutely amazing how the Ormskirk and West Lancashire community have got behind us over the past 12 months.

“Thanks to them we’ve been able to buy Leon some specialised equipment such as his swing and chair and he’s been able to start sessions at Legacy Rainbow House, where he’s come on leaps and bounds.

“Leon can now roll and he’s become much more interactive, because we don’t know his exact condition, we don’t know what his needs might be in the future.

“We’re just taking it day by day and enjoying spending time with him.

“We can’t wait to take the trip to Euro Disney, he’s never been able to go on rides like other children, but at Disney there’s over 70 accessible rides he’ll be able to enjoy.

“I’m so thankful to both Emma and Laura Horn and Kathy Nelson at Retreat Beauty for all they’ve done for us.

“They’ve raised around £950 so far for us which is amazing, and means we’ll be able to organise character visits for Leon while we’re at Disney.

“We’re all so excited to go, it’s going to be so amazing at Christmas time, and I know Leon will have the time of his life.”

There are several more people taking part in fundraising events in aid of the Love for Leon appeal in the coming weeks, including Scotts Butchers in Ormskirk running the Gingerbread 10k and some of Toni-Marie’s friends doing the Colour Run next month.
