Inspired by the recent athletic prowess on display in the Commonwealth Games and determined to see if they could find any renewed energy, two of the area’s leading renewable energy companies Clean Power Solutions and Smart Homes entered the World’s first ‘Old Codgers Charity Triathlon’, last weekend. Clean Power Solutions of Ormskirk and Smart Homes specialise in enabling farmers and local businesses to eliminate their energy bills by storing excess renewable energy that hasn’t been used as electricity as Hydrogen and using it as either heating or vehicle fuel.
Determined to demonstrate how much energy each contestant could avoid exerting, not so much six packs but beer bellies were on display as the teams competed to see who still ‘had it’ at an advanced age. Medical staff were on standby as the two teams engaged in 18 holes of competitive golf, followed by Crown Bowls and several hours of coarse fishing, at Hurlston Hall. The event was held over two days with a hog roast held at Clean Power Solution’s headquarters in Scarisbrick in the evening for all the contestants, their families and business associates of both companies. The bouncy castle proved even more popular with the grown-ups later in the evening.
Each company had placed £500 in the pot and the profit was donated to charity. Clean Power Solutions put up a valiant effort but were thrashed by Smart Homes in every category. The companies will be holding this event every year from now on and invite any company in the North West or Cheshire to enter a team next year.
