Drivers in Parbold are having to take a detour around the level crossing, after a van crashed into it last week.

On Tuesday July 22 a van driver smashed through the level crossing while it was down and broke the barrier.

As a result of the crash Station Road in Parbold is closed at the crossing, meaning that cars, buses and lorries are being diverted via Lancaster Lane and Tanhouse Lane to get to Parbold shops.

Alex Davies, 14, who lives in the village, said: “I didn’t see the accident, but it has caused absolute mayhem.

“Lots of people use the road that the crossing is on and it’s caused massive inconvenience for everyone in Parbold.

“Everything has had to be diverted, even the buses, adding time onto people’s journeys.

“They’ve said it’s going to take at least a couple of weeks to repair, meaning that people will be affected for a while yet.

“I’m a bit of a train enthusiast and know how important level crossings are.

“The fact that someone has just smashed through it without a care in the world is worrying.

“There could have been a very serious accident and its amazing that no one was injured.

“I just want more people to be aware of the dangers and to be more careful.”
