Since winning the Young Farmers Club National Junior Tug of War competition last year at their first attempt, the Parbold team were on a high after getting through to this year’s final held at Tenbury Show, Worcestershire on Saturday, August 2.
The team, being some 20kg underweight, were a little worried as they had to lose a team member this year because of age restrictions. Those worries were unfounded, as they won by two clear pulls against every team, even in the final.
There will be no let up on the training though, as they are heading to Folkstone later this month to compete in an international tug of war competition against teams from around the world.
The team consisted of Sarah Baker, Jack Eckersley, Alex Garner, James Henshaw, Janie Hodge, Sam Reeves, Mark Watkinson and Andy Wilkinson.
The team would like to say a huge thank you to their coach David Garner who has given up his time to train the team each week and water boy Jim Jam.
They would also like to thank BBR Roofing, Liverpool for providing the team with new shirts and Taylors Farm Shop, Lathom for allowing the team to train at their farm.
