Police are appealing for information after a teenager was assaulted at the weekend.
The attack took place at around 2.40am last Saturday, when the 19-year-old sustained head injuries after an assault on Moorgate, Ormskirk.
A group of friends are reported to have been approached by a lone man close to a taxi rank in the early hours of the morning following a night out.
The man began arguing with the group and a 19-year-old from Skelmersdale is believed to have been punched and was knocked unconscious after hitting his head on a kerb.
The thug then ran off from the scene. He is described as being white, in his 30s, of a heavy build wearing a short sleeved shirt, possibly a dark red colour.
The 19-year-old was taken to Southport General Hospital where he received treatment for a fractured skull.
DC Gemma Lashley of Skelmersdale CID, said: “We are appealing for witnesses who may have seen this incident and might be able to help us identify the man involved.
“The incident is currently being investigated by detectives and we’re keen to speak to anyone who might be able to help us. There would have been a lot of people around the area at the time of the attack.
“This is a particularly nasty assault and we would urge anyone with information to contact the police on 101 quoting log number LC-20140802-0190.”
