Jacques Kallis spent the first morning of his final Test in the field as India impressed against South Africa in Durban.
Having announced on Christmas Day that his 166-Test career will end at the conclusion of this match, all eyes were on the 38-year-old.
He was stationed in the slips throughout, though, as India - who won the toss - progressed to 76 for one at lunch.
Shikhar Darwan was the man out, going for 29 as he found the hands of Alviro Peterson off the bowling for Morne Morkel, who passed a late fitness test.
Murali Vijay (33) and Cheteshwar Pujara (13) made it through to the break unbeaten, making good use of a pitch offering little assistance.
The two-match series is tied at 0-0.
