Drivers face delays as work starts on Ormskirk ring road

DRIVERS face delays over the next few weeks as parts of the ring road in Ormskirk have been closed for repairs.

United Utilities began carrying out work from Monday along Derby Street West to improve electricity supplies to Ormskirk, Scarisbrick and Tarleton.

Drivers are being diverted down Green Lane and up Burscough Street.

People parking in the town also faced disruption as the Stiles car park is closed while the work is carried out.

A United Utilities spokesman said: “Derby Street West is closed for two weeks as part of a high voltage cable reinforcement programme.

“We do apologise for any inconvenience and we are keeping those affected informed of our plans.

“The work is essential to ensure the very best possible electricity supply to our customers.

“And although the closure is scheduled for two weeks we will endeavour to complete the work in as short a time as possible.”

United Utilities said the local authority is taking advantage of the closure to carry out road works at the same time.

Lancashire County Council said: “We have been working closely with United Utilities to coordinate our resurfacing with works they need to carry out in Derby Street.

“This has resulted in us scheduling works to be carried out together and minimise delays as far as possible.

“The Stiles car park will be closed for two days while the county council carries out its resurfacing work and will also be inaccessible while the United Utilities work is done.”
