Ormskirk railway station
SPECIAL guests will take sledgehammers to Ormskirk train station as its £1.5 million makeover gets underway.
The start-of-work ceremony tomorrow will mark the beginning of the project which will run in partnership with West Lancashire District Council, Lancashire County Council, Merseyrail and Network Rail.
Residents and commuters to Ormskirk can expect new and improved facilities including a new booking hall, a waiting room, toilet facilities, ticket counters and new automatic swinging doors.
Plans for the station, which first opened in 1849, also include green technologies like LED lighting and a rain water collection tank.
The pathway between Ormskirk bus and train station will also be remodelled and landscaped to provide a defined public path and cycle path, which will include new lighting along its entire length.
Guest including the chairman of the council will take sledgehammers to the internal wall of the train station to mark the start of the work at the station.
