Ormskirk jewellers Philip & Charles Ltd to close after 40 years in business

A FAMILY business which has been in Ormskirk for over 40 years is closing down.

Phillips & Charles jewellers on Aughton Street is the latest business in the town to announce its closure and is expected to shut its doors for the final time this weekend.

Last Friday (January 16), customers queued down the street as the shop began a 50% off closing down sale.

The family run business also has a premises in West Kirby, Wirral, and began in 1853 with shops on Lime Street and Ranelagh Street in Liverpool.

In 1968 the Lime Street branch was relocated to Church Street in Ormskirk and then moved to Aughton Street three years ago.

The shop is the latest in a number of businesses across the town to close, including its neighbour Ponden Mill, Woolworths and the Comrades Club.

The owners of Phillips & Charles declined to comment about the closure the Ormskirk shop.
