Ormskirk man Roy Bayfield visits the Bermuda Triangle of West Lancashire – Argleton in Aughton

PERHAPS it’s the Bermuda Triangle of West Lancashire?

Could it be a land that time forgot?

Or is it just a... mistake on Google Maps?

It might even be an April Fool but that didn’t stop Ormskirk man Roy Bayfield from seeking out the imaginary place of Argleton.

According to Google, the internet’s largest search engine, Argleton is very much an existing destination situated just off the A59 between Aughton and Aughton Green.

So Roy, head of corporate marketing at Edge Hill University, decided to check the place out for himself, writing about it on his blog, ‘Walking Home to 50’.

He said: “When I turned 50, I decided that I wanted to walk back to Brighton, my home town, using routes I wouldn’t necessarily do by car and visiting anywhere I have lived over the years.

“It’s a sort of coming of age resolution I made. So far I have managed to walk part of the route from Southport Pier to Warwick.”

Roy then discovered Argleton and made that one of the places he would have to visit.
