Residents fight against Ormskirk club’s bid for 2.30am licence

Arriba nightclub on Moorgate, Ormskirk

ELDERLY residents have mounted a stand over an Ormskirk nightclub’s bid stay open until 3am.

Arriba in Moorgate could serve alcohol until 2.30am seven days a week if club owners are granted permission next month.

Alcohol can currently be served at the venue until midnight on Monday and Tuesday and 1am from Wednesday to Sunday.

Locals fear the extended hours could lead to a rise in antisocial behaviour on the streets as revellers make their way from the venue, subjecting them to sleepless nights.

A letter, seen by the Advertiser, has been circled to nearby residents and shopkeepers urging them to speak out.

Licensee Craig Carloss, who runs three clubs in Southport town centre, said: “We need to open later.

“People’s habits have changed and they are staying at home longer before coming out. They want to be able to stay out longer than 1am and stagger their drinking.

“During the week we will only stay open late if there is a special function that merits it.”

Pensioner Maureen Gregg, of Moorgate, said: “It is not just the noise from the venue, it is when they are travelling home from the club. They can get a bit riotous.
