BURSCOUGH Bridge Railway Station hosts a special day to celebrate to promote local railways.
With the proposal to reopen the café at Burscough Bridge station as a ‘Community Drop-In Centre’, agencies involved have agreed to organise a fun day between 10am and 4pm for the family while promoting their work and the re-opening of the café.
Additional stalls will be by the Community Rail Partnership (CRP) and the Ormskirk Preston and Southport Travellers’ Association, Northern Rail, Merseytravel, Martin Mere, and Fair Trade.
There is also an exhibition of photos and a school project by the CRP.
There will be a free bus service (using old Liverpool Corporation buses from the Merseyside Transport Trust) between the station and Martin Mere.
Other Events on the day include the planting of flower tubs at Meols Cop Railway station which have been provided by Northern Rail.
Cream teas will be available and there will also be a discussion of plans between Northern Rail and the Friends of Meols Cop for a wildflower garden.
An inspection visit to Bescar Lane railway station is also being planned to admire the splendid appearance of the station.
Plans for the event at Hoscar station are still being finalised but there will be folk music at the Railway Tavern.
A guided walk will take place from Appley Bridge at 10.30 and Gathurst at 11.30 taking in some historical and very scenic parts of the Douglas Valley and the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. This could be the start of a walks programme along the line.
Timings for Meols Cop, Bescar and Hoscar are being worked out, and are somewhat dependent on train times.
