Ormskirk teenager through to regional final of Open Mic UK competition

AN ORMSKIRK teenager who went up against 10,000 hopefuls has got through to the regional finals of a national singing competition.

Megan Thomas, 16, wowed judges at the Open Mic UK contest with her solo performance.

The Ormskirk School pupil, who has just done well in her GCSEs, sang an a cappella version of Gravity by Sarah Bareilles.

If the teenager wins the grand final, she will work with an industry professional to record her own album and tour the UK.

Megan, who lives with parents Wendy and Kevin and sister Erin on Dyers Lane, said: “I sing ballads by people live Eva Cassidy but I’m thinking of doing something different for the next stage, maybe in a jazz style.

“There are 10 acts that go through in each region. I’ve got to go back in October and do a live performance, then I’ll be told whether I’ve made it through to the final.”
