More than 13,000 shoe boxes collected following troops appeal

“People give me all sorts – soap, shaving gel, shower gel, toothpaste, razor blades, biscuits, packets of soup.

“Then the British Legion come and collected it to be boxed up, and it all gets shipped out to Afghanistan by the Ministry of Defence.

“Those soldiers just depend on what family and friends send out, so we can’t do enough for them.

“I’ve not met any of them, but they mean so much.

“They shouldn’t be out there and they’ve got nothing.

“Thomas goes and collects stuff when people can’t bring it – he was in the Royal Engineers himself, so he knows what they’re going through.

“Everyone has been so good and my house is full up with carrier bags.”
