FROM nearly 400 images, Burscough resident, Paul Jarvis's serene picture of a pintail has won the WWT Nikon National Digi-scoping Photograph of the Year.
Paul captured the pintail in soft, early evening light, as she tendered to her plumage on the calm waters of Martin Mere, adding a sense of wonder and charm to the shot.
After winning his regional competition in October, Paul was rewarded with the accolade last Tuesday in London, as judges from Birdwatching Magazines and Nikon deemed his image the pick of the best.
There was further regional success in the Junior category, as Graham Moreton, from Southport, won his category for a photograph of two Swans.
The Centre Manager of Martin Mere, Andy Wooldridge, said: “I am absolutely delighted with the number and quality of the entries we received at the Centre (Martin Mere).
This competition allowed everyone who visited the Centre to get involved from keen photographers to a family who simply wanted a memory of their enjoyable day”.
The nine WWT sites across the UK are visited by 1m people each year, with 60,000 children attending educational trips every 12 months.
