Fresh appeal for witnesses following Waterfront pub brawl in Burscough
DETECTIVES investigating a New Years Eve brawl in Burscough have made a fresh appeal for witnesses.
Fights broke out following an incident at The Waterfront pub on Liverpool Road North, in Burscough, and there were claims a man was slashed with a knife.
Several people have been arrested and questioned over the incident, but police want to trace two people.
At about 2am, on New Years Day, following the altercations, a man was assaulted on Trevor Road, outside the Stanley Institute. Police want to trace two witnesses captured on CCTV.
One is a woman, of medium build, with dark hair, who was wearing a red coat, and the other is a man of larger build, who was wearing a white checked shirt.
The assaulted man was found collapsed on Higgins Lane, and police want to speak to anyone who saw anything in that location.
Following these incidents a 22-year-old man had four stitches to the side of his head, a 21-year-old man had eight stitches for a cut to his right finger and thumb, and a 27-year-old man was hospitalised with a broken jaw.
Carl Ford, Waterfront licensee, said: “A fight broke out in the pub, we removed the people involved and we have given CCTV to the police to help them with their investigation.”
One eyewitness who found the man outside the Stanley Club said: “His face was smashed to smithereens and he had a big gash on his head.”
