Aughton Community Together (ACT) has big plans for Aughton

A NEW organisation has big plans for Aughton – and wants your help to make those plans a reality.

Aughton Community Together (ACT) is aiming to make some of the ideas that came out of the Aughton Parish Plan for the area a reality.

From litter picking to creating a new website informing people of everything happening in Aughton, members are full of ideas to make the attractive district an even better place.

The first ACT meeting was held at Christ Church Primary School last week when Julie Gibbons was made chairman and Christ Church Primary School head teacher Barbara Stevens was made secretary.

ACT’s next meeting will be at the same venue on Monday, June 27, at 7pm and everyone is welcome to come along.

Barbara said: “We have taken some long term and short term objectives from the parish plan but we also want to get more ideas from everyone else.

“A lot of people are very happy in Aughton but there are things that can be done.

“Aughton doesn’t really have a heart or a centre and in the parish plan the young people said they felt that the roads around Christ Church and those around St Michael's were two distinct areas. They suggested creating a cycle path linking the two.

“We want to do litter picks around the stations and on the footpaths eading from the quarry to improve the environment. I’m hopeful that pupils from the schools and the Christ Church youth groups will get involved.

“Other ideas that we are looking at include a health ramble through Aughton and setting up a twinning arrangement with another village. But we really want to hear from other people as to what they want and for them to get involved in ACT.”

ACT is completely independent of the parish council, although it does have to write an annual report giving details of its activities.

This independence will help it apply for community grants the parish council would not be eligible for.

Barbara thanked Martin Trengove for his help in setting up the group.

There is a £5 charge to become a member but people don’t have to be members to get involved in activities. For more information email Julie on jaw@liverpool.ac.uk or Barbara on b.stevens082@googlemail.com.
