West Lancashire Freemasons present £4,000 to The Legacy Rainbow House in Mawdesley

WEST Lancashire Freemasons have donated over £4,000 to a children’s charity in Mawdesley.

Three members from the Ormskirk group visited The Legacy Rainbow House where they met children undergoing specialist conductive education, before presenting a cheque of £4,256 raised from donations made at the group’s monthly meetings.

Conductive Education is a form of specialist education and rehabilitation for children and adults with motor disorders, such as cerebral palsy and acquired brain injuries.

It aims to help children and adults overcome problems with movement so that they can live more active and independent lives.

Philip Gunning, assistant provincial grandmaster for the Ormskirk and Southport Groups, said: “Meeting the children has really brought it home just how much a charity like this needs all the donations it can get. It was quite heartrending to hear of their plight and we think it’s wonderful to be associated with such a worthwhile cause.

“West Lancashire Freemasons have given over £119,000 to non-masonic causes in this year alone and, thanks to the generosity of its members, continues to meet the many demands groups and charities such as Rainbow House place upon us. As an organisation, it is tremendously satisfying for us to reflect on the assistance that we, as Freemasons, are able to provide within our communities.”

Frank Umbers, group chairman of the Ormskirk district, added: “It has been truly fantastic to meet the children and to see what our donations can do.”

Katherine Nelson, The Legacy Rainbow House project officer, said: “We are delighted to be receiving support once again from The West Lancashire Freemasons and are truly grateful for the work they do and the generous donation we have received.

“This amount will contribute greatly towards providing specialist education and rehabilitation to four families attending our services.”
