London 2012 hopefuls to open new Bickerstaffe outdoor gym

OLYMPIC athletes will attend Bickerstaffe Summer Fair this weekend to open a new outdoor village gym.

Eight athletes from Oceania – currently training at Edge Hill University – will enjoy the village festivities on Saturday (July 14).

Haley Nemra and Timi Garstang (Marshall Islands), John Howard, Rendy Germinaro and Mihter Wendolin (Federated States of Micronesia), and Ruby Gabriel, Rodman Teltul and Carson Olgeriil (Palau) are the Olympic hopefuls who will open the new gym.

The opening ceremony for the gym will take place around 2.45pm and everyone is invited to meet the athletes and try out the new equipment.

The new gym equipment is British-made and includes a rowing machine and a cross trainer. The facilities are free to use and will help anyone who wishes to improve their health and fitness levels.

Bickerstaffe Summer Fair is a traditional event which raises money for the local church and primary school and will be packed with stalls, displays, entertainment and games.

Everyone is welcome to enjoy the village’s special day and to give a warm welcome to the sporting VIPs. The outdoor gym has been funded by Bickerstaffe Parish Council based on consultations with villagers – and will be available 24 hours a day.
