Heroic trainee nurse helps man punched unconcious in Southport town centre assault

A STUDENT nurse went to the rescue of a man knocked unconscious on a night out.

The 47-year-old man had stopped breathing after being assaulted in Southport town centre in the early hours of the morning.

According to paramedics the victim was brought around thanks to the quick thinking of the trainee medic.

She performed vital resuscitation while her friends dialled 999.

One eyewitness said the man, who was released from hospital after spending the night under observation, appeared to have stopped breathing for more than a minute.

The victim and another man were reportedly involved in a dispute on the corner of West Street and Scarisbrick Avenue at around 3am on Sunday morning.

It is thought that the man, who has not been named, fell unconscious from the impact of hitting his head on the pavement after being punched.

Police said crime scene investigators have examined the area for clues and watched CCTV and witnesses are being asked to come forward.

DI John Williams said: “We are trying to establish what occurred and are appealing to anyone who may have any information about this incident to contact us so we can take action against the offender.”
