THE 2012 Sefton Writing competition is looking for new writing talent from Sefton and beyond.
The competition, which has been going since 1991, is open to all ages offering prizes totalling £1,000 across three categories of adult poetry, adult other writing (stories, essays, lyrics etc) and a children’s section.
Entry to the competition is £2 per item but under 14’s can enter for free. The deadline for entries is 4pm on Friday, October 12.
This years winners will be announced at a special awards event at the Royal Clifton Hotel from 6.30pm–8.30pm on Sunday, November 11. The event is to be hosted by Southport-born Heartbeat and The Royal actor David Lonsdale, with entertainment from poet Levi Tafari.
Marketing and programme manager Emma Lloy said: “The Sefton Writing Competition is an annual event that receives hundreds of entries. Past winners have gone on to write their own material and becomes published authors and poets.
“We want to support writing initiatives and new talent and will publish the winning entries on the Sefton Arts Website.
“We would like to thank The Royal Clifton Hotel who continue to support this event.”
Tickets to the awards evening are available to those who have entered the competition after the deadline on Friday, October 12. They can be booked over the phone on 0151 928 1919 and picked up from The Civic, Crosby or at The Royal Clifton Hotel on the evening of the event.
Entry forms can be downloaded from the Sefton Arts website www.seftonarts.co.uk but are also within the Sefton magazine which can be picked up from Southport Tourist Information Centre, libraries, leisure centres and council outlets across Sefton.
