Brighthelmston reunion appeal stretches to West Lancashire

A REUNION for all former pupils of Brighthelmston School Šwill take place on November 3.

It has been organised by two Šformer pupils of the Birkdale Šschool, Ingrid Guy (née Birch) Šand Gillian Brearley (née Mellor).

The get-together will take Šplace at Birkdale Cricket Club, Šwith guests Šinvited to arrive at Š1.30pm in time for a 2pm buffet.

The confirmation of the date Šcomes after an appeal for former pupils to get in touch through Šthe Southport Visiter.

The organisers now hope the Advertiser may reach some former Brighthelmston pupils before the big night.

Ingrid said: “Since the appeal, things have snowballed Šhere.

“Lots of ex-pupils are making contact with their old Šschool pals and friendships are Šbeing rekindled after 30, 40, 50 Šyears.”

As well as the reunion, a website has also been created, Šwww.brighthelmston.org.uk

She added: “The website is up Šand running but is still very Šmuch a work-in-progress and Šdesperately needs input.Š

“Any information about the Šearly days of the school would Šbe most welcome, and also Šabout Šthe period of changeover Šfrom boarding to day school, Šwhich is still something of a Šmystery.”

The Facebook group has also Šbeen a huge success and now Šboasts more than 120 members Šbut growing daily.Š

Ingrid added: “We have messaged everyone on the Friends ŠReunited groups and sent invitations to all the addresses Šfrom Šthe previous list of ex-pupils. Now the memories and Šphotographs are flying in!Š

“But, Šif anyone knows any Šmore Šex-Brighthelmston pupils, please check if they have Šheard about the reunion, Facebook group or website because Šthere are still lots of them out Šthere who we haven't managed Što find yet!”
