Ormskirk pub landlord preaching against global poverty from behind the pump

A PUB landlord is preaching against poverty from behind the pumps – after becoming a global poverty ambassador.

Stephen Gilligan, who manages the Queen Inn, Ormskirk, is one of 100 ambassadors for the Global Poverty Project in the UK who will be delivering presentations to the public in a bid to end extreme poverty.

Stephen got involved with the project through his work with the Maghull and Aughton Rotary Club.

He will now be delivering presentations at schools, universities, rotary clubs and any other community groups who are interesting in booking a free session.

And it isn’t just those booking sessions that learn something – he is helping spread the word to punters, too.

Stephen said: “It’s all about how you can play your own small part – be it through buying Fair Trade, ethical products or telling others about the issues.

“I go through some of my presentations behind the bar and when people ask what I’m doing I get talking to them about it – a lot of people are shocked to hear things like Polio are still such an issue.”
