Shotgun and ammunition found on disused Liverpool railway bridge

A SHOTGUN and dozens of unused cartridges were uncovered by police on a disused Liverpool railway bridge.

Officers with a specialised firearms dog conducted a search after a passerby spotted two spent cartridges.

Two plastic bags containing a shotgun and several dozen unused shotgun cartridges were found in the search on the loopline off Scarisbrick Road, in Norris Green, and were being examined by forensic experts yesterday to see who they may be linked to.

The passerby made the find on Tuesday morning.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Richie Salter from Matrix, said: “This was excellent work by the officer and his dog and it is thanks to welcome information from a concerned resident that we were able to search this area.

“The fact that a dangerous firearm and a significant amount of ammunition has been seized and taken out of circulation is a great result as they can no longer be used to harm someone in this community. It also shows to people that we will take positive action when they share information with us and with their help we can keep taking guns and drugs off our streets and put the people who use them behind bars.”

Anyone with any information on gun crime can call the force’s Matrix unit on 0151 777 5699 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
