MORE than £1.8m of Lottery money will be used to breathe new life into a Merseyside town centre.
Knowsley Council was awarded £1.85m from the Heritage Lottery Fund to revitalise Prescot.
The revamp will see the repair and restoration of some of the town’s historic buildings and find new uses for empty and under-used premises.
The majority of the work will be focused around Market Place and Eccleston Street.
Cllr Dave Lonergan, cabinet member for regeneration, economy and skills, said: “This is a fantastic boost for Prescot which will bring huge benefits for all residents.
“It will help to provide a more attractive and vibrant town centre, with historic buildings revived and empty premises brought back to use, but it will also give people an opportunity to learn new skills and possibly a career in conservation and restoration.”
The five-year project is due to begin in spring next year.
