A NEW talent contest linking up with Banks Carnival has been launched – and entries are now being invited.
More than 2,500 flocked to the event last year, which returned after a 30-year absence to coincide with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The carnival will return this summer, along with a new star attraction – the Banx-Factor.
This year’s theme is related to music and the carnival committee is seeking to find some of the best talent in Banks and surrounding areas by hosting a contest for all age groups.
With less than six months to go until the June 1 event, Cllr Paul Blane, carnival committee chair, said: “The creation of the Banx-Factor was something different for the community to engage with in the lead-up to the carnival.
“Auditions nights will be held at Banks St Stephens Social Club on January 25 and February 8 with more dates to be added if demand is high.
“We are looking for talent in any form from any age group, whether it is singers, groups, comedians, dancers, musicians or indeed any other form of entertainment.
“The prize for the winners is one that for an aspiring act, money could not buy as they will be the closing act of the Banks Carnival 2013.
“This is an amazing opportunity for an aspiring act, as they will get the chance to perform in front of a potential 3,000 people, including many media personalities.”
Auditions will take place in front of a live crowd, and members of the public are encouraged to come along and enjoy the family night and disco. Entry is £2 and all funds will go to the carnival 2013 fund. Doors open at 7.30pm on audition nights.
Applications are available for acts to complete now, and can be collected from Banks Community Centre, Banks Methodist School or Banks St Stephens Primary School. Alternatively, request a form by email to banx-factor@hotmail. co.uk
The closing date for entries is January 26.
