Merseyside Police probe launched after man, 48, shot in legs
POLICE were today stepping up patrols after a man was shot in the legs.
Emergency services were called to a house in Rufford Avenue, Maghull at about 9.30pm yesterday after the shooting was reported.
They found a 48-year-old man inside the property with injuries to his legs, which police said were caused by a firearm.
He was taken by ambulance to hospital, where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening and his condition is described as stable.
Detectives from Merseyside Police's anti-gun crime unit Matrix are investigating and the scene has been sealed off for forensic examinations.
This morning police were carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the surrounding area.
An extra police presence was also being provided in a bid to reassure residents, with officers calling for witnesses to come forward.
Police today were unable to confirm if the man had been shot while in the house or elsewhere.
Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious is asked to call Matrix on 0151 7775699 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
