Rufford Coronation Street star Andrew Lancel in Liverpool crown court over sex offence claims
RUFFORD-born ex Coronation Street star Andrew Lancel appeared at Liverpool Crown Court for the first time since being accused of historic child sex offences.
Former Tarleton High pupil Lancel, 42, appeared under his real name Andrew Watkinson on Friday wearing a smart dark grey suit and purple striped tie but spoke only to confirm his identity.
He is accused of five counts of indecent assault on a child under 16 allegedly carried out while he was a trainee actor working in Southport.
Kim Whittlestone, prosecuting, said the prosecution case would be completed by the end of the month in time for Lancel, of Gateacre, to enter a plea on April 15.
He was bailed until the next hearing on April 15 on the condition that he not approach the alleged victim or any witnesses.
Lancel rose to fame playing DI Neil Manson in The Bill before appearing in Coronation Street as Frank Foster between 2011 and 2012.
He pulled out of a role at a Christmas show in Liverpool when the allegations came to light in December.
