Time running out to nominate your local sporting heroes for Advertiser Sports Awards

NOW is the time to nominate your local sporting heroes for the Advertiser Sports Awards.

A glittering awards evening will be held at Edge Hill university on April 19 to celebrate those who go the extra mile in our sporting community.

Previous winners and nominees have included stars on the international, national and regional sporting scene.

Whether you know a coach who volunteers their weekends to train athletes or a young star who has excelled in the past year there are plenty of awards up for grabs.

And now is the time to get your nominations in.

With the event looming ever closer the Advertiser office has been flooded with nominations.

But there is still time to send your recommendations in to give your heroes a chance to emulate previous winners.

Ormskirk Cricket Club captain Ian Robinson received the Advertiser Sports Personality of the Year Award from Liverpool FC legend David Fairclough at the last awards back in November, 2011.

Ian had led the club to a league and cup double in the Liverpool Competition.

About 170 people attended the superb gala evening at the university’s Rose Theatre, where inline and ice hockey player Jake Higham took the Junior Sports Personality of the Year Award.

Spartac Gymnastics Club stole the show with their performances and Disability Achievement and Disability Inclusion Award double triumph.

The full list of categories is: Sports Personality of the Year; Junior Sports Personality of the Year; Team of the Year; Coach of the Year; Junior Team of the Year; Hall of Fame trophy; Sports Student of the Year (to be awarded by Edge Hill); disability inclusion; disability achievement; lifetime achievement and Unsung Hero.

The awards are organised by the Advertiser in association with Edge Hill University and the West Lancs Disability Sports Forum.
