Model train fans flock to Rails of Burscough exhibition at wharf

MODEL train enthusiasts flocked to Burscough Wharf for the second Rails at Burscough exhibition last weekend.

The event, presented by The Tramway and Light Railway Society, filled the second floor of the arts centre at the Wharf.

Free bus services ran to and from Ormskirk throughout the day, while visitors enjoyed over ten individual displays of working miniature rail and tram exhibits.

The event attracted enthusiasts from Lancashire and beyond. Robert Winter, who travelled from Hoylake, Wirral, to visit the exhibition with grandchildren Callum and Joseph, said: “We are model train enthusiasts, we heard about the event through a friend, it’s a great display, well worth the journey”.

This is the second time the society has exhibited at the Wharf, marking the beginning of the 2013 programme of activities.

Nick Eckersley, Burscough Wharf manager, said: “Saturday was a great success, it’s great to see so many new visitors, two years on from our official opening.

“We’re developing a series of events and activities throughout the spring and summer, and there will be something for everyone.”
