Youngsters from West Lancashire primary do borough proud at county athletics finals

SPORTY youngsters from a West Lancs primary did their borough proud at a regional athletics finals.

Pupils from St. Anne's CP school, Aughton, went to the Primary Schools Eveque Indoor Athletics County Finals, at Blackpool Sports Centre, Stanley Park, Blackpool earlier this month.

There were 16 district champions taking part in the event from all over Lancashire.

St. Annes won their place after topping a borough-wide indoor athletics event at St Bede's Catholic High School.

And the team eventually came in second overall in the Blackpool finals with a fantastic score of 593 points.

Mark Thomas, St Anne’s PE coordinator, said: “The pupils were a credit to their parents and the school, and were beaten only by a really strong team from Preston.

“This was our sixth visit to the county finals, having won the competition two years ago, and this was our second runners-up spot.

“ It was a great day for the pupils and those parents who managed to get there.

“I am very proud of the pupils and commitment from the school, which offers great support to the sports department.”
