AN abandoned dog with a broken leg was rescued from Tarleton Moss – where he had stayed faithfully by the side of his dead friend.
Animal sanctuary volunteers have now launched a desperate plea for information after the heartbreaking discovery.
The black laparatsu-cross, which has been named William, was found sitting by the side of a white poodle westy cross which had passed away.
The passer-by who spotted the pair on Sunday, February 24, took them straight to the vets with the help of a volunteer from Woodlands Animal Sanctuary in Holmeswood. William’s back leg was so badly broken vets had to remove it. He is now on the mend and staying with foster parents.
Vickie McDerby, from Woodlands, which took on William despite not normally dealing with dogs, said: “We are desperately appealing for information as to how the dogs got to the moss and sadly we are forced to believe they were probably abandoned. “William is frightened of a lead, of the dark. We just want some justice for these dogs. The vets originally thought maybe a traffic accident but, given the way he has been behaving, it looks more like abuse. But his progress has been amazing, he’s already come on so much.”
