Ormskirk family butchers wins national awards for its bacon

AN ORMSKIRK family butchers is celebrating after winning two awards in a national bacon contest.

G & E Hallsworth & Son impressed judges in the home dry cured back bacon, and home dry cured sweet spiced back bacon categories of the Great Bacon Revolution Awards.

It comes after the father and son team of George and Chris Hallsworth picked up the plaudits at the BPEX North West regional roadshow last November, winning gold for homemade sausages and becoming regional champion for their home dry cured bacon and gammon.

Chris said: “This week is another good benchmark in the meat trade’s calendar as it shows to the nation that not all bacon is the same.

“I believe it is important to inform the public what we care about is quality and the service that we provide, as well as showing that we care about where we source our meat from. We still source our meat from the same suppliers that we have done for many years.

“We source our pigs from farms in the local Longton area, from farmers who have been rearing pigs for generations.

“We have a great working relationship together, they know what we are looking for and so we always receive the great high quality we need.”
