THE annual Kite Flying Weekend takes place at Beacon Country Park this Saturday and Sunday (June 22 & 23).
There will be displays by the Northern Kite Group on the kite field, near the Carr Lane car park, between 10am and 4pm both days.
Themes include animals, birds, and stunt kites. There will also be an altitude sprint where competitors have to launch a kite and get it as high as possible in a given time.
This free event for all the family has been organised by West Lancashire Borough Council’s rangers and the kite group. One of the attractions, which children most enjoy, is the parachute jump, where a teddy bear with a parachute is lifted by a kite and dropped from some height before landing safely.
The kite group invites children to bring their own teddy or soft toy, and will award a certificate to the brave bear.
Cllr David Sudworth, portfolio holder for leisure, said: “The Kite Flying Weekend is always a great event and I would encourage everyone to come along and enjoy the fantastic displays by the Northern Kite Group.”
Visitors will be able to buy kites from a vendor at the park. Refreshments will be available over the weekend.
