Ben Deeming Rising Star nominee
AN Advertiser Sports Award recipient has been nominated for the Lancashire Rising Star Award.
Go-kart racer Ben Deeming from Ormskirk was named the Junior Sports Personality winner at the Sports Awards earlier this year and it is not just the Advertiser who can see his potential.
The 10-year-old was nominated by West Lancashire Borough Council for the Lancashire Rising Star Award which will take place in October.
Proud mum and dad, Debbie and Jeff, said that it is in part thanks to the coverage and support from the Advertiser.
Debbie said: “Ben’s passion for cars and anything related to cars started at a very early age.
“We noticed at the age of three he could name virtually every car on the road without being taught any of the names.
“It also become apparent around the same time he had an ability to manoeuvre a push kart around the house at immense speeds but with the ability to avoid any objects. This progressed to a three-wheel bike, a pedal kart and a two-wheeled bike by the age of four, all being handled in a similar manner.”
Since then Ben has won a huge variety of trophies and competitions, finishing sixth in the Cheshire Championship and seventh in the Manchester and Buxton Championship after only starting in April in both championships and he is already making steady progress in this year’s competitions.
Debbie added: “If he continues progressing at this rate, we will seriously require a sponsor to assist with the cost of equipment as Ben is still running a 2010 chassis and the old-style Comer engine.
“To compete seriously next year, he would need the latest chassis and the new-style engine.”
