BURSCOUGH Juniors Football Club were granted a long-term lease by West Lancashire Borough Council for the Abbey Lane playing fields last week.
The decision made at a cabinet meeting to enter into a community use agreement means the club are now able to seek additional funding for improvements to the site.
The council agreed in principle to the proposals for the 25-year-lease back in June but had to consult other sports clubs who use the site before making their final decision.
The responses the council received from the clubs were all positive regarding the proposed partnership with the Juniors.
The Juniors have agreed to maintain six full size adult pitches at Abbey Lane and to make them available for clubs to use.
Cricket and archery teams will also be allowed to continue to use the site.
Burscough Juniors are currently working on a business plan and the final grant submission document to the Football Foundation – who will provide the remaining money for the pitches to be restored.
The club hope to have the pitches ready for the 2014-15 season after having no permanent base since November last year.
Elliot Cosgrove, the chairman of the club, said: “We’re made up with the decision and it’s now full steam ahead with our plans.”
