GROUPS representing hundreds of Aughton residents say they are angry and disappointed by the Local Plan proposals.
Aughton Residents Group and Keep Aughton Green feel that they have been let down and ignored in the formulation of the plan, which is due to be voted on for adoption at a council meeting on October 16.
Since the council’s controversial recommendations to remove the land from the Green Belt they have campaigned vigorously in their efforts to protect the high grade arable farmland at Parrs Lane.
Despite their best efforts the groups have been unsuccessful in persuading the Government inspector to reconsider the decision to remove Green Belt status from the land.
Colin Atkinson, spokesman for the groups, said: “It’s unbelievable and very sad to think that local residents have been totally ignored in favour of landowners and developers who stand to make vast sums of money to the detriment of this village and the surrounding area.
“Localism and the involvement of the community in decision making have been ridden over roughshod with little or no consultation.”
Under the Local Plan, Parrs Lane is now considered as one large site and will be removed from the Green Belt as a Plan “B” site for future development.
However, the land will be safeguarded from development for the foreseeable future because the housing provision requirements will be met by other sites across the borough.
