THERE will be no holds barred this weekend as the champions of Grandslam Wrestling bring all-action American wrestling to Ormskirk Civic Hall.
The civic hall will be transformed into an impressive wrestling arena on Saturday night and the organisers aim to bring to life the drama people normally see on their TV screens.
Wrestlers from all over the world will be taking on the very best of Great Britain.
Dave Stewart – also known as “Bigg Dogg” – will be one of the wrestlers taking part in the show.
The 40-year-old was born and raised in Skelmersdale but left 20 years ago to pursue his wrestling dream. The civic hall show will be the first time he has wrestled in West Lancashire.
Dave, who is 6ft and weighs over 28st, said: “I’m really excited to be coming home to wrestle. The show is shaping up to be really great and I hope we get a good crowd down to see us.
“I left the area to pursue my wrestling dream and have since performed all over the UK and around the world.
“It’s a really family-friendly sport, there are villains and heroes and everyone gets involved booing and cheering.”
Wrestling has seen a resurgence in recent years and more people are attending live shows than ever before.
The event will be raising money for the anti-bullying charity Kidscape, with a percentage of the profits going directly to the charity.
Dave decided that he wanted to be a wrestler at a young age and would follow wrestling stars around to different shows to learn more about the sport.
He said: “It’s just something that really appealed to me.
“I wanted an active job and wrestling seemed to be active but with a fun element with all the capes and hats.
“I’ve never looked back since.”
Dave will be taking on the American rule-bender Paul Razor, but there will also be four other matches featuring various stars.
The amazing 3ft 6in Little Legs, who featured in all the Harry Potter films, will be appearing.
Other stars of the wrestling world taking to the ring are: the high-flying teenager from Southport, Sean Marrel; the ladies dream machine, Yestin Reyes; the masked mystery man from Japan, Tagori; and making a rare UK appearance after returning from a very successful year wrestling with the WWE will be Stevie Starr.
The event starts at 7pm doors open at 6.30pm.
Tickets are on sale from the box office: 01695-554150 or on the door.
