THE search is back on for West Lancashire’s unsung heroes – the people who give so much for so little in our community.
We have teamed up with the newly-launched Scottish Power Foundation to launch this year's Your Heroes awards – to give recognition to the people who give so selflessly for others.
The Scottish Power Foundation is the official sponsor of this year's awards, supporting the glittering event to be held early next year, when our shortlisted nominees will be invited to a special night of celebration.
Scottish Power launched the foundation this year to reinforce the energy company’s commitment to charitable work throughout Britain.
Its aim is to make a significant and lasting contribution to society and enhance the quality of life in local communities.
Now we need you to nominate a community hero who you think deserves reward for their outstanding contribution.
We are looking for nominations in five categories: Person of the year, Young person of the year, Sports person of the year, School of the year, and Volunteer of the year.
It could be the man, woman boy or girl who carried out a dramatic rescue or saved the life of a fellow human being.
But equally it could be that fine upstanding person who has worked tirelessly for their community, to make it a better place for the people who live in it.
We all know somebody, the person who runs the local club for young people, a carer, the guy who has run the kids’ football team for years, the cubs or brownies leader, the person who leads the local theatre group.
They go about their lives selflessly and without asking for anything in return.
Then there are our local schools where so many wonderful things are done on behalf of our children.
Why not do something to get them the recognition they deserve.
Advertiser editor Andrew Edwards said: “We love these awards because we get the chance to recognise some pretty amazing people.
“So our message is simple. Get those nominations in and give somebody special a real lift.”
Ann Loughrey, Trustee of the Scottish Power Foundation said: “The Your Heroes Awards provide a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the often unrecognised work going on within our communities and we welcome nominations for individuals and groups who have gone above and beyond the call of duty and are really making a difference.”
Nominations are now open and will close in December. But do not wait until then do it now. All you have to do is fill in the nomination form on this page and attach a testimonial of up to 250 words on why they should win an award. Alternatively, you can nominate online by visiting www.osadvertiser.co.uk or by filling in our form below.
