Ormskirk man Alan Mifflin dies after motorcyle crash
AN ORMSKIRK motorcyclist has died after a collision with a car.
Alan Mifflin, 44, was killed in the accident in Yew Tree Road last Thursday.
An off-duty fireman stopped at the scene and performed CPR on the biker before paramedics arrived.
But they were unable to save Mr Mifflin, who was pronounced dead after being taken to Ormskirk hospital by ambulance.
Emergency services were called just after 7am to reports of a collision between a motorcyclist and a Vauxhall Corsa at the junction with County Road.
The full length of Yew Tree Road, from its junctions with Burscough Road and Grimshaw Lane, was closed off for four hours as police examined the scene.
A spokesman for Mr Mifflin's family said: : “Alan will be sadly missed by all who knew him. We now need time to come to terms with this horrendous news and would ask for privacy at this difficult time.”
Sgt Steve Wignall said: “An investigation is now under way and I would appeal to anybody who witnessed this collision to contact police.
“Mr Mifflin’s family are understandably distraught at this time and they are being supported by specially trained officers.”
A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service said: “We got a call at 7.03am to reports of a road traffic collision between a car and motorbike at the junction of the A59 and Yew Tree Road.
“There was an off-duty fireman at the scene who commenced CPR on the patient and the police were informed.”
