A FAMILY of travelling show people at risk of becoming homeless have withdrawn a planning application for a new traveller site on Green Belt.
The application made by Cunningham Planning on behalf of the family back in June proposed the erection of six park homes at a site south of Ringtail Road in Burscough.
There were a number of strong objections to the plans on the council’s website, which include a proposal to tarmac an area of the Green Belt land for 25 car parking spaces.
But, following planning officers’ recommendations to refuse the application, it was withdrawn.
The design and access statement said that the family will be “effectively homeless” if not relocated and had undertaken an extensive assessment of suitable sites in the surrounding area.
When the Advertiser reported on this planning application in July we found that West Lancashire Borough Council did not have any policies in place to accommodate traveller sites.
At the time the council said: “As this is a live application, the council will not comment on its merits but can confirm the council does not at present have a local policy for travelling show people.
“The council has commenced work on the preparation of a Travellers Sites Development Plan document.”
