BURSCOUGH cricket team have got their kit off and produced a naked calendar to raise money for their junior squad.
The team decided the calendar would be a good way to raise funds for much needed kit and equipment while having a laugh at the same time.
Nine out of the 11 squad members took part in the saucy cricket-themed shoot with the dozen shots being taken in a variety of locations such as the clubhouse, the cricket nets and the scorebox.
Over 300 calendars have been sold so far raising around £2,000 for the club.
Former skipper Alan Murray is one of the team members who came up with the idea of doing the calendar. Alan said: “It was the idea of Brendan Domigan, our player from New Zealand, at first but all the team thought it was a great idea.
“We’ve never done anything like this before but we thought it would be a laugh and be popular with the Burscough community.
“I was in the post office and there was an old lady in there who was horrified but when I told her what it was for she ended up buying one.
“The lads are aged from 20 to 45 and they were brilliant. It was just a really fun day and we’re all chuffed with the results. We think it’s tasteful as well as being a bit cheeky.
“The money we raise will all go towards buying new kit for the junior squad who are in desperate need of helmets, bats and balls amongst other things.”
Alan and the rest of the team are also hoping the calendar will raise the profile of the club and encourage new members to join.
He said: “We really suffer if any of our key players are unavailable. The hope is we can get a couple of cricketers in to bolster the talent we already have.”
