A POST office is set for a major overhaul in the new year with plans for an open-plan style branch and longer opening hours being put into action.
Anne and John Eminson who run the Burscough Bridge Post Office on Liverpool Road, Burscough, are looking forward to the refurbishment which will begin on January 9.
As part of Post Office plans to modernise the network and extend opening hours Burscough Bridge Post Office will have three screened serving positions.
Post Office customers will benefit from opening hours being extended on Saturday afternoons as the branch will now open from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday.
There are also plans to install a cash machine in store in response to customer demand.
John Eminson who runs the Burscough post office said: “It’s a very exciting time for us. We’re really looking forward to the facelift and hope everyone will support us as we look to the future.
“We’re keen to keep the Post Office on the high street and we believe by modernising and offering services like cash machines we’ll be able to do that.”
Burscough Bridge Post Office will be closed for refurbishment from 5.30pm on Thursday, January 9. The newly modernised branch will then be open from 1pm on Monday, January 27.
In the meantime, nearby branches will be happy to look after the needs of customers during the closure.
The nearest alternative post offices are Rufford Post Office, andBurscough Town Post Office.
Post Office Regional network manager for Central England, Adrian Wales, said: “We understand how important the post office is to residents around Burscough Bridge and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
“This modernisation is part of a three-year investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office, that will see around half of the Post Office network converting to new-style branches and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
