A HAPPY couple from Ormskirk says their relationship is stronger than ever after losing a combined weight of 10st and winning a local slimming competition.
Paul and Kirsty Childs have transformed their lives since joining the Ormskirk Slimming World group and now they’re delighted to have been named their groups Couple of 2014.
The pair decided to join Slimming World after realising that their weight was making them unhappy and putting their health at risk.
Kirsty has shed almost 6st, she said: "I think it’s easy for couples to become comfortable with one another and over time married life takes priority over your weight and health.
“Convenience foods are so tempting when you’re busy and we’d regularly treat ourselves to a takeaway, a big bag of crisps or bar of chocolate and a bottle of wine when we were having a relaxing night in front of the TV. So like most people our weight crept up gradually.
“Eventually we realised we didn’t recognise the people we saw in the mirror anymore and we knew it was bad for our health, that was when we decided we had to do something.
“Paul never had the confidence to join the group at first, so I joined alone. I was blown away by the warm welcome I was given by my consultant Tina Whewell and all the other members and I very quickly realised that I had all the help and support I needed to succeed.”
Paul lost two stone just by eating what Kirsty was eating. But he frequently gave into temptation and his weight loss came to a halt so last November he decided to join the group himself. And has gone on to lose a further two stone 2lb in just 11 weeks.
Paul says "I expected losing weight to be hard work but it hasn’t been at all. We still enjoy all of our favourite meals like spaghetti Bolognese, curries and stir fries, but we’ve learned how to make small changes to the way we cook them so they’re much healthier– and they taste better too.”
