TWO Skelmersdale police officers who were attacked while trying to make an arrest have thanked the local community for their support.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Susan Swift and PC Ben Clancy tried to arrest a teenager on Ennerdale at 12.20am on Saturday, September 27.
PC Clancy suffered a suspected broken nose, had bruising on his head, legs and arms, and was left with severe pains in his rib and chest area.
Sgt Swift suffered a sprained jaw, swelling to the right side of her face and a puncture wound to her right forearm where she was bitten.
Both officers were taken to hospital for treatment and are recovering from their injuries at home.
Sgt Andy Willis said: “We have had a lot of public support following the incident with a number of people stopping officers in the street and expressing their concern over what has happened and bringing cards and flowers to the police station.
“Both officers wished to express their thanks to those who have taken the time to show their support and they hope to be back at work in the next few days.”
Police are appealing for witnesses to contact Skelmersdale CID on 01695 466042 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555111.
