SKELMERSDALE shoe company Beaconsfield Footwear Ltd has been fined £15,000 for not following European Union rules on cardboard recycling.
Companies with an annual turnover of more than £2million and which handle more than 50 tonnes of packaging a year have to register with the Environment Agency or agree to recycle a certain percentage of packaging waste.
Beaconsfield Footwear Ltd failed to follow the rules, avoiding paying £16,000 in registration, recycling and recovery costs.
The company, which is based at Pimbo, was fined a total of £15,000, and ordered to pay £4,204 compensation and £1,876 in costs at Ormskirk Magistrates’ Court.
